New Shows For Your Summer Schedule
As we’ve outlined earlier, a challenge of running CFUR over the summer months is that many of our on-air DJs head home or out to different jobs, and we are left with a whole slew of reruns and on-air hours to fill. This year, we’re doing a couple of things different. We’ve already been running CFUR in the Summer, a three-hour mix of new music from 1-4 on Monday through Wednesday. Now, we’re adding some new talk programs to the mix. Today at noon, you can tune in for the first episode of Natures Past. This is a fascinating production from Sean Kheraj, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of History at the University of British Columbia. Every episode, he takes a look at the environmental history community and research in Canada. Don’t know what that means? Well, today at 1 pm he’ll be explaining exactly what that is, and why it’s important.
Nature’s Past episodes are eclectic in length, so we’ll be teaming them with shorter production from the Rabble network. Today at about 12:45 they drop in on Cameroon to find out what you can tell about the country by listening to its music.
We’re still working on exact details, for other new shows, but we can tell you that CFUR will soon be broadcasting Search Engine, a weekly look at how technology affects politics and culture, Are We Alone?, a production from the SETI institute with support from NASA, Red Eye, a news and current events program from Vancouver co-op radio, as well as music shows from NxEW and the Hype Machine. There’s plenty of great productions out there, and one of the roles for CFUR is to help you discover them– and you can help us discover them. If there’s a show you think should be added, let us know on Twitter, Facebook, or info@cfur.ca.
We also want to make it clear that there is always room for original programming on CFUR, and these are just supplements to what we think is the lifeblood: great original programming. But right now, there’s room for both, and we’re happy to bring you the best of both worlds.
Tune in and let us know what you think!
