5 on a String

This weekend there will be some old fashioned bluegrass coming to Prince George with 5 on a String. After 25 years they have now hold the title of the longest standing bluegrass bands in the Pacific Northwest.

They will be coming back to Artspace this Sunday, on July 23rd at 7pm.

Tickets are $20 each and available at Books & Co. for this band and its keen and passionate focus on traditional bluegrass.

Kispiox Valley Music Festival

Take a drive out of PG and head over to the Kispiox Valley to hear some great music, because from July 28th to the 30th the Kispiox Valley Music Festival will jamming by the river for the 22nd time.

 Every year over 200 volunteers put in hundreds of hours of work assuring that yet another wonderful festival is put on for people of every age.The festival, found just outside of Hazelton, features both local performers along with ones from across Canada, such as: Rachelle Van Zanten, The Racket, and Sweet Alibi.

Weekend Passes are $80 for Adults and $50 for Youth. As well there is a camping fee of $15 per person over 12 and $30 per vehicle

Ewan Macintyre Band

When was the last  time you listened to a Celtic Soul band?  Not for a while...or maybe never? Well then you should definitely make sure to check out Ewan Macintyre Band playing at Nancy O’s on July 20th.

Macintyre and his band weaves a blend of folk pop that features beautiful string arrangements, ripping solos, soaring harmonies and heartfelt lyrical content. The band has been traveling across Canada and Europe to promote their latest single: “Champagne in Heaven”, and will be landing in PG soon.

Learn to Survive Outside!

If you find yourself outside hiking, biking, climbing, hunting or otherwise in nature on a regular basis, there is a workshop coming to town you'll definitely want to check out. BC AdventureSmart will be in Prince George to present the Survive Outside Program at the University of Northern British Columbia on July 28th.

You will get the opportunity to learn about the proper preparations for spending time outside along with some on the essentials you should always have on you. As well, there will be a panel discussions with the Prince George Search & Rescue afterwards.

Sarah Jane Scouten

Bowen Island native, Sarah Jane Scouten, will be bringing her folk roots up to Prince George on Monday, July 17th.

Scouten balances melodies that are reminiscent of traditional folk with outspoken and edgy themes; ranging from homelessness to midwifery to tongue-in-cheek heartache songs and unabashed Canadiana.

She now has three full-length recorded albums that some have described as having flavours of Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffiths and Iris Dement and a wealth of early country music.

If you want to check out this two-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee you can see her at Nancy O’s. There will be a $12 cover charge for this performance.

WOAH! It's crazy to think that our second Radio Academy of the summer is already done! This last camp was such a blast (for both the campers and counsellors) and it was amazing to see how quickly the campers caught on to everything, along with how great all of their shows turned out...not to forget all the PSAs, IDs, and Interviews they made.
