UNBC’s claim to fame is its tagline “Canada’s Green University” University Administration, so it’s not surprising that the university’s Green Day Celebration is a priority.
March 26th is Green Day. This year, the event doesn’t just happen on a single day. Instead, activities happen over two and a half weeks of sustainability themed events starting on March 7. The official kick off will be on March 11th.
The theme of this year’s activities is Leading A Sustainable Future: Countdown to Green Day 2024. It’s like a mini conference with youth engagement, recycling theory & application, sustainability in indigenous tradition, transportation, alternative energy and food are only a few topics featured from an array of experts, sourced locally and internationally.
This year, UNBC’s Sustainability Office hired PhD Candidate Ann Duong, and joint environmental, sustainability, and PoliSci major Olga Pickard, to spearhead the event. This marks a shift from leaning on student volunteers to organize the occasion.
