CFUR Radio Grateful to Receive CRFC Local Journalism Initiatives Grant
Lheidli T’enneh - Prince George, BC — CFUR Radio is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the CRFC Local Journalism Initiatives grant of $29,056.39 to fund our NewsRoom. The project will enable the hiring of a full-time journalist, Ian Gregg, to create original local journalism content that meets the diverse needs of the underserved communities of Prince George, BC as well as Shelley, BC; Clesbaoneecheck 3, BC; Lheidli communities to the northeast and west of Prince George.
Many in our community and surrounding area acknowledge more Local news coverage is needed. Genevieve Tucker, CFURadio Station Manager, says, “In a region as large as ours, creativity and many resources are required to gather news and make an impact with the coverage. I can firmly say that our NewsRoom, headed by Ian Gregg, successfully surpassed this challenge with the help of the LJI Program last year, and we are very grateful to receive funding again this year to continue our work serving our community with important news.” CFURadio’s NewsRoom will capture and share news and issues affecting communities throughout our region both online through https://www.frequencynews.ca/, and via the “Due North” program presented twice on weekdays on our radio signal at 88.7FM.
Collaborating with the National College Radio Association (NCRA) by sharing news and resources with other campus-community stations across the country, we are looking forward to making an impact this academic year. We’re proud to be a part of this local-level, information-gathering project. This initiative was made possible by the Community Radio Fund of Canada, the only organization mandated to financially support campus and community radio stations in Canada.

CFUR Radio Grateful to Receive CRFC Radiometres Grant to Launch "Northern Static Series"
Lheidli T’enneh - Prince George, BC — CFUR Radio is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the CRFC Radiometres Grant of $34,500 to fund our exciting new project, the "Northern Static Series." This grant will allow us to expand our programming and provide a unique platform for local musicians to share their talent and stories with a wider audience.
The "Northern Static Series" is a dynamic initiative that will spotlight the rich musical talent in our community through in-depth interviews, acoustic recordings, and explorations of artists' previously recorded work. This hour-long program will not only highlight the artists’ creative processes but also delve into the meanings behind their songs and the recording experiences that shaped them.
Receiving the CRFC Radiometres Grant is a significant achievement for CFUR Radio. It enables us to continue our mission of supporting and amplifying the voices of local artists. The grant will be instrumental in ensuring that this series is produced with the highest quality standards, providing both our listeners and featured artists with an exceptional experience. The "Northern Static Series" project offers volunteers hands-on experience in radio production, including recording, editing, interviewing, and managing social media. They’ll work with local artists and gain valuable skills in content creation and promotion, enhancing their resumes and providing a solid foundation for future careers in media.

"This grant is a testament to the importance of community radio in fostering local talent and creating meaningful connections within our community."
The funding will be used to cover production costs, including professional recording and editing services, equipment and wages related to the project, as well as honorariums for the participating artists. The series will be broadcast across CFUR Radio, available as a podcast, and shared on our social media platforms, ensuring that the music and stories of our local artists reach as many people as possible.
CFUR Radio extends our deepest thanks to the CRFC for their continued support of community radio initiatives. We also want to express our gratitude to our dedicated staff, volunteers, and the incredible artists who make this series possible. Together, we are creating something truly special for our community and beyond.
