Executive Director, Elaine Laberge, at the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has led her team there to access $75k in grant funding to conduct community-based research on mental illness, homelessness, and the unique challenges faced by seniors with mental health concerns in Prince George and region.
Laberge acknowledges that many rural communities with their own norms and values contribute to the social fabric of Prince George. While moving from rural to urban presents a challenge on its own for many in our community, multiple crises add to the challenges people face.
Alongside unaddressed mental health, these factors and more contribute to situations where maintaining housing is not possible. Their research hopes to explore these aspects, and engage the community with the findings in plain language.
