CO2 Lock and Cielo Carbon Solutions from partnering to develop a sequestration site SW of Prince George near Bobtail Mountain Park.
A unique deposit of Brucite also known as magnesium hydroxide brought the project to our doorstep. The mineral has the rare ability to crystallize CO2. The companies hope to draw CO2 from a local industrial partner, bring it to their injection well, and quickly scale up their ability to sequester a million tonnes a year, reducing pollution and making the use of natural gas cleaner.
Cielo CEO Jonathon Sipos spoke with CFUR about their goals and technology. We also asked UNBC Associate Professor of Engineering Dr. Steve Helle about the efficacy of the project and the system overview of this technology.
