Peyton Sinclair has frozen her hands on cross country ski poles since she could walk, and has been a biathlete since the age of eight, which is now paying off in the form of a scholarship as part of UNBC’s newest varsity team.
The Otway Caledonia Nordic Centre has existed for years, more recently building a target range closer to the parking lot for easier access, installing snow machines, and a paved path. While these improvements have extended their training and competition season, Sinclair also cites local volunteer coaches, Ali Cadell & Tuppy Hoehn who’ve transitioned into paid roles, as critical factors in continuously leveling her up.
Sinclair says she feels a growing awareness of her chosen sport locally, as classmates become familiar with the team on campus, and media attend competitions, “More people are knowing about it now which is really awesome!”
