Former Burns Lake mayor announces Liberal candidacy for Cariboo–Prince George riding

Chris Beach has announced his candidacy for the Cariboo–Prince George riding, representing the Federal Liberal party. His campaign was launched at Betulla Burning restaurant in Prince George’s downtown core on Friday.

At the launch, Beach described a party ready to face challenges at home and abroad, and his intention to represent the riding which covers over 83,000km2 of BC’s Central Interior.

Beach took an opportunity to distance himself from the Trudeau government, at one point saying, “if Justin Trudeau was still the leader I probably would not have come back to the party. I’ll just be very frank about that.”

Some of those in attendance felt there was a chance that the riding’s traditionally Conservative representation could flip to the Liberal party. CFUR Radio was at the campaign launch.

FURTHER EDIT: Mr. Beach’s candidacy came to a halt when it was discovered that, despite assurances he claimed to receive, an alternate candidate—Mr. Clinton Emslie—was chosen instead. An interview with Mr. Emslie can be heard here, while a Prince George Citizen article further explores the situation here.
