Ten million dollars in renovations completed at UNBC’s School of Nursing

Dr. Catharine Schiller, Chair of UNBC’s School of Nursing, has just cut the ribbon on three freshly renovated spaces critical to the school’s delivery of healthcare education in Fort St. John, at the Prince George campus, and downtown at the WDIC building.

BC’s Ministry of Post Secondary Education & Future Skills funded the $10,000,000 upgrade which, according to Dr. Schiller, increases both the quality of healthcare education, and the quantity of graduates from the program. The school is jumping from 20 seats in its baccalaureate program to 40. That leap has the potential to increase the amount of family nurse practitioners educated and working in northern BC.

That’s good news for northern communities depending on professionals to deliver healthcare in their area. While there’s room at the school of nursing, the expanded baccalaureate program is already full for the fall semester at both the Prince George WDIC, and Fort St. John locations.
