Multicultural Heritage Society Children’s Festival returns from multi year hiatus

After a 16 year hiatus, the Children’s Festival has returned.

After partnering with the city, the festival follows a successful Canada Day event this past summer, and has a history in the community going back decades.

The Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park event intends to rejuvenate a focus on analogue person-to-person activities that children can engage in without advanced technology — for example, participatory dance, art, and skill development.

The festival takes place Saturday, May 31st, but plans are underway for a 2026 event, to be held on a school day. It is being organized by The Prince George Multicultural Heritage Society.

Society Administrator Margaret Jackson spoke to CFUR about reviving the event. Jackson refers to testimony community members have provided with fondness, “That was one of highlights that most people said. That it was a school trip that got them there. It wasn’t their parents.”
