Workplace harassment workshop navigating a world of NDAs touring BC, heads to Prince George–Lheidli
Due North

The Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS) provides free legal advice to people who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace and is touring a workshop through BC communities, including Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh. The workshop guides participants through education and advocacy of their rights and explores the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in the workplace.

CLAS will present findings from their research during this Speak Out Project workshop on June 10th at the Coast Hotel. The research gathered insight from BC residents who experienced or witnessed harm, especially gender-based violence (GBV), and who may have been pressured to stay silent through NDAs or other agreements.

Jennifer Kohr, Supervising lawyer for CLAS’s SHARP Workplaces program spoke to CFURadio and brought to light the increasing importance of this issue as industry begins to take off in BC’s North. She referenced a factor that exists in many smaller northern communities, “people are concerned about losing their employment and their income, and so they might remain at a workplace where they’re at risk…” Preventing & navigating issues like this, and more, where people are encouraged to stay silent in the face of harassment will be discussed at the event, which is open to the public. Registration is encouraged.
