The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2026 has been released with its top ten world’s most liveable cities being spotlighted by TimeOut Magazine, and Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh did not make the list, again. Copenhagen, Denmark took the top spot as Vancouver, BC slid into ninth place. Working through the pain of rejection with CFURadio is Tourism Prince George’s Executive Director, Scott McWalter.
What our city lacks in segregated bike lanes and social services, it may sufficiently compensate with summer offerings. McWalter expressed, “These are the kind of events that would make our friends in Copenhagen blush.” These events include initiatives like the patio passport program to get residents and visitors exploring more, all while the Canadian Native Fastball Championship is set to kick off August 2nd, a drone show will light up the sky over the FIFA finals celebration on July 19th, an accessibility program opened opportunities for local businesses and residents through June, and a certain Northern charm not found anywhere on the EIU’s list of most liveable cities persists throughout the year.

Scott McWalter, Executive Director of Tourism Prince George stands beside CFURadio’s mascot Boomhauer in UNBC’s NUSC building, just outside of CFUR’s office. He wears a white T-shirt and jeans, prototypical Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh business-casual attire. Take that, Copenhagen & Vancouver.
