CFUR Radio Society Receives $34,966.20 to Strengthen Volunteer Skills and Spoken-Word Programming
Lheidli T’enneh - Prince George, BC, Sept 14th, 2026 - CFUR Radio Society is pleased to announce that it has received $34,966.20 in funding from the Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) through the Radiometres Skills Development program to strengthen volunteer training, recruitment, and spoken-word programming at CFUR 88.7 FM.
The project will focus on building a more structured and accessible pathway for community members and students to become trained CFUR programmers. Funding will support a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator who will lead volunteer outreach, onboarding, and skills development, as well as create comprehensive training resources covering broadcasting, studio operations, audio production, station policies, and other essential radio skills. The project will also expand staff mentorship and support, helping volunteers move from initial training into hands-on broadcasting experience.
A key component will be the launch of From the Top of the Hill, a new spoken-word program designed to serve as a training ground for emerging CFUR programmers. Volunteers will gain practical experience in interviewing, community storytelling, audio production, show preparation, and broadcasting while producing content focused on local arts, culture, events, and current affairs.
“We have been so fortunate to receive funding from the CRFC for the past two years to create two seasons of the Northern Static Series, this year we are excited to bring something different to our community and focus on training individuals to have the skills and confidence to host their own programs!” said Genevieve Tucker, Station Manager of CFUR Radio Society.
Over the course of the project, CFUR aims to train at least five new volunteers, produce a minimum of 10 episodes of From the Top of the Hill, and develop new training materials that can continue to support volunteers well beyond the funding period.
