We caught up with Ian Barrett, collector, purveyor, and jeweller of interstellar (and psychedelic) artifacts. We chatted about the nature of celestial jewellery and mused upon the organic legacy of his late uncle as Ian continues a psychedelic legacy. Check out his work here:

Elk meat hunters treat! This week on Suppertime.

Celebrating hunting season with beautiful northern BC elk

My awesome brand new brother in law Morgan got an elk a month ago and sent some of the meat down to PG. How nice. What a fine chap.

So this week on Suppertime we celebrate elk by cooking it in a rich coffee gravy and listening to tunes which celebrate Morgan & Dani, the elk and their herd life, hunting, hermits, velvet, and outdoor pretty songs.

For the elk:

4-5 chunks of elk minute steak ( thin cutlets of elk, or whatever cut you have cut about an inch thick)

1 onion sliced into rings

20151020_113106

1 bouillon cube of whatever flavour or water (about 1.5 cups)

2 tsp flour

1 tbs instant coffee

2 tbs greek yogurt or sour cream (optional)

  • In a medium-high frying pan with oil, fry up your elk on both sides for about 2-3 minutes each. Until a nice crisp brown carmelization process takes place.
  • Add about a 1.5 cups of water, or stock, or water and bouillon cube, or just water. Whatever your have my dear.
  • Add flour and stir into water
  • Add onions
  • Place a lid on the pan slightly ajar so steam can escape
  • Reduce heat to a low or low-medium and let simmer for about 40 minutes
  • Add 2 tbsps of instant coffee and stir
  • let simmer about 5 more minutes
  • tada! Done
  • Add some greek yogurt or sour cream for a little tang and creaminess if you wish

The Rat Queen-- last week's busted ankle endeavour

Oct 9 2015- The Rat Queen- I Sort Of lIve By Myself Now And I Don't Know How To Read Treble Clef by Jordan Tucker on Mixcloud

Hey CFURs!

Apparently this week's audio was sort of a mess-- I prerecorded my show after three nights of staying up reading Lolita. I was totally wrong about that book-- it's one of the most beautifully written stories I've ever read. What a character study! In the afterword, Nabokov refers to it as his "love letter to the English language", and I would strongly agree. There's nothing better to read than a series of sentences written by someone who clearly relished writing them. Lolita is one of the funniest, most compassionate, darkest and simply beautiful books I've ever read. Also, a serial child rapist is the protagonist. So there's that.

All that is to say that in my tiredness, I apparently forgot to turn on the fader for my voice for this week's audio, as I was too busy thinking about the possibility of failures in our best intentions, be we criminals or technically-ungifted radio hosts. So- here is my show from last week. The information and songs contained wherein are a week stale, so somehow you'll just have to sally forth in your agony and wait for another week to figure out what happened with my ankle and whatever. Or, check my mixcloud page, (search Jamteezy) , and you can hear my show, but with gaps where I was speaking. If you hate what I talk about, there's blessed silence between songs. Just picture me talking about my cats or about trying to be a good person but being really self-involved. or whatever I say normally, I'm not really paying attention.

Anyways, the link above is last week's show and it works. Hurray!

Volunteer at CFUR! It'll probably be one of your best decisions ever.

DEATH. DISMEMBERMENT. DANCE NUMBERS.

Five university students head to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons.  Sounds like every B-grade horror film, right?  Wrong.  It's the acclaimed cult-classic Evil Dead: The Musical. Rest assured, you've never seen demon-slaying like this.  Limbs will fly, blood will spurt, and duets will be sung.  With songs like "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Canadian Demons" and "What the F*@k was That," you need not be a fan of horror or even musicals to enjoy this show.  If you like things that are good, you will love Evil Dead.  I'm certain of it.

Tonight, October 21st, is opening night!  PLUS - flash your student ID to get a sweet discount on either tonight or tomorrow night's show. Hell, at $15 a piece, get tickets for BOTH nights.  Tickets for sale at Studio 2880 (ph: 250-563-2880).  If you have a lot of friends (10 or more), ask about group pricing. And if you're brave, ask about the Splatter Zone...
