- Iskwew – (pronounced Is-kway-yo) - is a trio of CanadianCree Nation women who descend from a long line of singers.Krystle Pederson, Sandy Scofield and Fara Palmer are all award winners with active careers in other forms of music and art. They create and perform songs in the plains tradition. Songs that tell stories of connection to the earth, the Creatorand one another. The heartbeat of mother earth is heard through their drums, underscoring a message of culture from a people who have survived the impacts of colonization.
- Rachelle van Zanten is an internationally acclaimed Canadian slide guitarist/singer who is known for her powerful live performances. Her latest album, produced by multiple award-winner Joby Baker (The Cowboy Junkies, Alex Cuba, Mae Moore), showcases van Zanten's skills as a guitarist and songwriter in equal measure. The album’s songs are an intense mix of van Zanten's deep connection to the landscapes of northern BC and her own personal stories of loss, grief, and joy. The 19 year road warrior is now in the process of creating a children's album. Look for this album come spring 2015.
- Digging Roots is a Canadian musical group who herald from Toronto. Fronted by husband and wife duo Raven Kanetakta and ShoShona Kish, their musical style blends folk-rock, pop, blues and hip hop influences. They first met before an audition for a music festival while they were both still music students. They won their first gig after their chance meeting that day and haven’t looked back. Their songs reflect a maturing sense of storytelling told through sweet harmonies, smokey wails, melodic accompaniments of ukulele, banjo, mellotron and Raven’s bombastic resonator guitar. In 2007they won theCanadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Group and in 2010 they took home the Juno Award for Aboriginal Album of the Year “WE ARE.”
- Throughout the Games, Authentic First Nations art from Lheidli T’enneh will be showcased at the 7th Ave Professional Building. Clothing apparel includes hoodies, t-shirts, and long sleeve shirts featuring the Lheidli T’enneh logo along with the Official Host Society logo and word mark. Royalties from sale of these products being contributed directly to a fund for the Lheidli T’enneh youth.
