Due North Info Bulletin - 4 May 2026

An audio bulletin for the weeK of may 4th 2026

Looking at the week ahead Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh, the weather forecast predicts clouds arriving by Friday with a small chance of precipitation. In the newsroom, here is what we’ve picked up on:

  • The Spruce Kings, Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh’s BCHL Hockey Club opened the third round of their playoff season, against the Nanaimo Clippers this weekend on May 1st and 2nd. Losing the first two games, the team heads to Nanaimo this week looking for redemption on May 5th & 6th before coming back home on the 8th.

  • Prices at the pump dropped from last week, with highs of ¢180.9/L and lows of ¢177.9/L for gasoline reported

  • There are six to seven active fires in the Prince George fire district, all of which are currently under control.

  • Despite significant revenue loss, the College of New Caledonia (CNC) announced a balanced projected budget on April 24, 2026 that required a number of sacrifices to achieve. President Cindy Heitman spoke to us about that.

  • Also announced April 24th, March 2027 will mark the first time in its 51 year history that the Junior All Native Basketball Tournament (JANT) will take place in Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh, bringing roughly 120 teams and 2000 youth athletes with it. An occasion of this scale demands an official host, and at UNBC’s Northern Sport Centre on Friday April 24th the Nak’azdli Whut’en Trees youth basketball team were designated with that title.

  • Darnell Toth and Jessica Speziale of Toth Entertainment booked their first of hopefully many large endeavours, with renowned DJ Steve Aoki. He’s coming to the CN Centre July 5th.

  • A number of local organizations including Everyone at the Table (EAT) are advocating for the city to adopt a Food Charter. The city has made moves towards this, identified in Resolution 14 of the 33 Resolutions the city had adopted following recommendations raised by the 2025 Official Community Plan (OCP). A story is developing in that area as we’ve so far spoken to local advocate April Ottesen.

  • Beading workshops occur Wednesdays at Omineca Arts Centre, 6:30-9pm, hosted by Lynn Biles. Swing on by with a couple bucks for beading supplies.
