James Steidle Interview

Returning to Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh to become a local taxpayer in 2017 after exploring the world, pursuing education and employment, James Steidle now runs for a City of Prince George Council position.  Exploiting our overlaying transportation infrastructure by supporting our city’s role as a transport and logistics hub is part of his plan. Aware of what regional AI technology development already means for residents, Steidle weighs the benefits additional expanding industries may bring and wishes to position the community to capture the incoming wave. Prioritizing affordable non-market housing, developed considering population density, is something Steidle feels would soften the pressures of affordability, while preparing for change.

Hanging up his Stop the Spray BC hat for a moment after tirelessly advocating for green space, Steidle kept to our 15 minute time limit while answering questions that were brought about upon identifying his platform, and prioritized through our audience survey. He hopes others will see the value of supporting local business, economy, and community ahead of the City of Prince George’s Municipal Elections on October 17th, 2026.

Dan McLaren Interview

Dan McLaren has managed wealth as a local entrepreneur providing investment services since 1995, and doesn’t appreciate that municipal taxes, “have gone up at twice the rate of inflation for the past twelve years, and probably further than that.” Reducing, even temporarily freezing those taxes are a part of his platform in addressing affordability in Prince George–Lheidli T’enneh. Calling this city his home for nearly forty years, McLaren has donated to a number of causes including hospice care. In that time he’s also had more than one property burn down. His platform also centres on bolstering safety, and investment in the community.

McLaren walked through a number of ways that the City could position itself for an incoming economic boom beyond developing more efficient spending habits, including the involvement of local industry leaders in economic development strategies, leveraging the large physical footprint of our municipality and saying yes to industry considering development in our area.

McLaren spoke with CFURadio at his downtown office further, about his platform, and questions that were developed considering our audience survey ahead of the City of Prince George’s 2026 Municipal Election.

Point Up Polaris Long-List 2026

Pointing up the female artists long-listed in this years Polaris Music Prize.

Economist Anthony Okechukwu plunges into race for Council chair, offering regional experience

UNBC School of Economics graduate, turned Yekooche First Nation CAO, then Community Economic Officer for McLeod Lake Indian Band when the distance from his family became too great, Anthony “Tony” Okechukwu first moved to Prince George in 2017 and is now getting into local politics as he builds a future for his young family.

As a developmental economist, one way of generating revenue for the city Okechukwu envisions is to encourage entrepreneurship, on the principle that expanding the amount of businesses expands the city’s tax base. To encourage that, Okechukwu would like to streamline the city’s permitting processes and reduce the business taxes which are preventing new enterprises from emerging. In order to prepare for an economic boom, one of the areas of business he feels the city needs to specifically encourage is construction. The resulting creation of local jobs from new local companies, leading to increased spending and economic stimulation, would increase the services and amenities citizens of the city demand.

Between this and increased transparency resulting in more accountable & efficient city spending, Okechukwu feels a lot of our municipal problems could be addressed. These problems include affordable housing, brain drain, accessible healthcare, safer streets and more, though not without addressing reconciliation within the process.

Okechukwu spoke with CFURadio, a venue he’s familiar with as a former volunteer and board member, about his platform, and asks others to take this election seriously as an opportunity to enable positive change. Anthony Okechukwu makes his move towards Prince George City Council during our Municipal Elections on October 17th, 2026.
